Latest Project
I recently inhereted a large lot of old vintage dolls from my Aunt who passed away this year. I want to fix them up and make them look new again! So far, I've started with a vintage skipper. I'm thinking of making her into a little ballerina. So far I've removed her hair which was a lot more challenging then I thought. I had a tough time removing the front of the hair and my hand sure took a beating but I finally managed! lol. So thats what I'm working on right now. Here's what it looks like.

Curves in all the right places

Why are most barbies so skinny? I have no problem with Skinny barbies but I'll admit it would be cool to see a bigger variety of doll sizes out there. It seems like Mattel is making them even skinnier with the new pivitol doll body which is neat because of the flexibility but what about the big girls? The only bigger body mold was created for the Happy Family Grandma doll. As if Grandmas are the only people with a bigger shape. Thats so unfair! Since I wasn't seeing any I decided to create a plus sized doll myself. She came out better than I expected. Finally a pretty barbie with some curves on her.

Before and After

Where Have I been?

Oh my, It has been a while since I updated my journal. I have so many projects that I'm working on at the moment. I was working on 7 dolls all at once. Two which have been listing on ebay. I'm so glad that they are finally finished! I haven't been feeling up to doing much. I just got discouraged due to personal reasons. I think I'm getting inspired again. I'm part of an awesome tutorial group that is having a doll contest. I've already started on my entry but I'm not sure if I can finish it on time. So I'm slowly working on that. I'm really anxious to get back to work.

Where has ken gone?

I went to ToysRus today in search of a new ken doll that I could start rerooting and guess what I found? guess! ... not a damn thing. Absolutely nothing! They didn't have one ken doll with rooted hair. They only had the ones with the molded plastic hair. I can't reroot a plastic molded hair ken! Isn't that the fun of dolls, being able to do their hair!? Then since K -mart was right across the street lol. I thought I'd go see if they had one and they had two, and just when I finally thought I'd found my dolls, I noticed they were both badly damaged and were being sold at full price. I used to be able to get a ken doll anywhere and now ... he's gone. Then I thought I'd buy some on eBay but have you seen the outrageous S&H prices. I mean the doll alone costs a fortune! People are really overpricing, its robbery! I hope Mattel is working on some new ken dolls because this is just ridiculous. I'm really missing ken right about now.

Pity Party

This will be my first Live Journal entry. My name is Mindy and I'm 19 years old. I have been fixated on barbies all my life. It all started before I was born. My mom had a vintage bubble cut Midge doll and said that if she ever had a little girl, she would pass her doll down to her daughter. My mom was true to her word and gave me the doll when I was around 5. I loved that doll. She was gorgeous and in mint condition. I've been hooked ever since. I always had barbies as a young child. My grandma also had a love for dolls and was a doll maker. She used to make beautiful dresses for my dolls. As the years went by, my collection got bigger and I still loved barbie more than ever. Due to my parents horrible seperation. I lost everything I ever owned including all my Barbie dolls. Even the beloved Midge doll that my mother had given me. My father wouldn't let me have my things back and destroyed everything that belonged to my mom and I. This was a very hard time in my life. I was 9 at the time. I was heartbroken but as time went on, my heart began to heal. I stopped collecting for a while because I was afraid I was going to lose them again but fate wouldn't allow that. A few short years back, I started buying dolls here and there. Mostly to fill that empty space that my first barbies had filled. Of course it never worked but I still loved barbie. Then I discovered eBay and went crazy! The first thing I ever bought on ebay was a lot of 100 barbie dolls. I couldn't get enough and still can't get enough. Then I discovered the wonderful world of OOAK dolls and thats why I'm here, doing what I love. I hope to meet likeminded people to share amazing thoughts and wicked ideas.
